FIELD: mass spectrometry.
SUBSTANCE: method of transferring ions from a pressure region close to atmospheric pressure into a mass spectrometer chamber having a reduced pressure includes directing a fluid medium containing ions, at a pressure of approximately 760 mm Hg to the inlet opening of the first channel forming the first flow path passing from the inlet opening to the outlet opening during the first period of time. Direction of fluid medium containing ions from outlet hole into chamber of mass spectrometer, having pressure less than 760 mm Hg, and during the second period of time extraction of part of fluid medium containing ions, from the first flow path to the second channel forming the second flow path, which passes from the point between the inlet hole and the outlet hole of the first channel to the outlet hole of the second channel. Remaining part of the fluid medium containing ions is directed into the mass spectrometer chamber having a pressure of less than 760 mm Hg. First and second time periods are synchronized with the operation of the mass analyzer. Also disclosed is an interface configured to transfer ions created under conditions close to atmospheric pressure to a mass spectrometer for mass analysis, and a system comprising a gaseous ion source at a first pressure.
EFFECT: simplified maintenance and increased service life of the interface.
