SUBSTANCE: harvesting device (36) comprises support (42) defining the excavation position of the harvesting device, and excavation section (46) comprising at least two excavating units (48), each of which is made with possibility of root crops digging and has at least one digging element (50). At least one of digging units (48) is made with possibility of movement relative to support between working position, in which he is able to dig beets from under surface (18) of the field, and a non-working position in which the digging unit is not able to dig beets from said field, when harvesting device is in digging position. Machine (22) for root crops harvesting comprises root crop heads cutting unit (32) configured to cut off heads of root crops to be excavated, and harvesting device (36) for harvesting root crops, heads of which are cut off by cutting unit. Device for harvesting root crops represents above described device (36). Method of root crops harvesting by means of above described device or above described machine includes stages, on which it is determined for a specific or each excavating unit, whether the root crop to be excavated is in the soil within a predetermined distance from this excavating unit in the direction of movement of the harvesting device, root crop is dug by means of a digging unit.
EFFECT: providing a more economical, in particular more energy-efficient and fast digging process.
