FIELD: engine building.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for operation and construction of a gas turbine engine (GTE) are based on the rational organization of working processes and implementation of a thermodynamic cycle of an efficiency close to the efficiency of the isothermal Carnot cycle. The data for a GTE wherein the maximum (sufficient) temperature is 1,500 K are set as an example. At a pressure of 60 atm at the outlet of the compressor, the efficiency thereof reaches 0.68 with a specific power of 750 kW/kg/s, exceeding the similar indicators of the largest combined-cycle gas turbine unit when the temperature therein reaches 2,000 K. In the case of extremely strict requirements for GTU excluding the use of a compact heat exchanger in the second circuit or the entire second circuit, the performance coefficient of the engine remains at the level of 0.62-0.6, which is also inaccessible for this class of existing engines.
EFFECT: method applies to GTE, preferably of a double-circuit structural design, allows, regardless of the power of the engine and with strict limitations of the weight and size characteristics, to actually achieve an efficiency of the GTE close enough to the efficiency of the Carnot cycle at high specific capacities, thereby significantly surpassing by said indicators the existing engines wherefor only the adiabatic process is implemented in the turbines.
