FIELD: working of metals.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of thermochemical restoration of corroded metal surfaces and can be used in the chemical, gas, building, transport, automotive industries, as well as during restoration work on cultural objects and monuments. A layer of composition based on oxygen-containing polymers in the form of polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl acetate with a thickness of up to 2-3 mm is applied to the surface of the article, followed by heat treatment of the restored surface at a temperature of 450 to 800°C for 2 to 15 minutes and cooling of the article in air to a temperature not exceeding 100°C, followed by cleaning the restored surface from the residue from the destruction of said composition and re-applying said composition to the steel surface, wherein the cycle including application of said composition, heat treatment, cooling, is repeated until the corroded steel surface is fully restored.

EFFECT: invention allows for restoration of metal articles with a complex configuration and small dimensions, wherein available polymer aqueous dispersions of oxygen-containing polymers disposed of in the course of the process without formation of toxic components are used.
