FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine, namely, to a dental instrument, and is intended for use in dental practice. A control system is used to identify a dental instrument configured to be retained by a dental apparatus, wherein the dental instrument has at least one material-removing edge in the front section thereof and a gripping section in the back section thereof, and a transponder, a power source for supplying power to the transponder, and a power receiver for receiving a signal from the transponder. Method for identifying a dental instrument, including the stages of: a - providing a dental instrument; b - providing a power source for supplying power to the transponder and a power receiver for receiving a signal from the transponder; c - providing a control system, wherein said system reacts to the characteristic data of the dental instrument when power is applied to the transponder or a signal is received from the transponder.

EFFECT: due to the data being received from a transponder and the system being subsequently notified of whether the dental instrument is suitable for a specific dental operation, the inventions allow the selected dental tasks to be performed manually, automatically, or by a combination of both said methods.
