SUBSTANCE: provided is a method for diagnosing and/or monitoring a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in an individual. Method involves determining the level of at least one micro-RNA in a fluid sample from an individual. McRNA can be selected from miR-425-5p, miR-502, miR-21 and miR-335. Method may include determining whether an individual suffers from mild TBI or moderate-to-severe TBI. Also provided is a composition and a kit for diagnosing and/or monitoring TBI, and a method for determining a suitable treatment for an individual with suspected TBI.

EFFECT: invention extends the range of tools for diagnosing and/or monitoring a traumatic brain injury.
