SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for suppressing the thermal escape of lithium batteries by passivating the active substance layer of the positive electrode and the active substance layer of the negative electrode. The invention provides a method that includes the stage of providing a lithium battery capable of charging and discharging, which includes an electrochemical reaction system. When the temperature of the lithium battery reaches a set value, metal ions (A) and amphoteric metal ions (B) are applied to the active substance layer of the positive electrode and the active substance layer of the negative electrode of the lithium battery to passivate the active substance layer of the positive electrode and the active substance layer of the negative electrode. Metal ions (A) are selected from alkali metal ions other than lithium, alkaline earth metal ions or a combination thereof.

EFFECT: increase in the safety of lithium batteries by suppressing the thermal escape of lithium batteries by reducing the thermal energy leading to thermal escape, uncontrolled heating of active substances.
