SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the field of rail track maintenance, in particular, to methods for processing the running surface of a rail, as well as to apparatus for processing the running surface. The processing method consists in processing the running surface with a metal-cutting shaping tool. After processing, a rolling body shaping the running surface of the rail is rolled along the rail. The running surface is shaped through application of cold forming. The apparatus includes a metal-cutting shaping tool and a rolling body. The rolling body is installed after the tool. The rolling body is pressed by a servo drive to the running surface of the rail.
EFFECT: irregularities occurring in the processing of the rail using a metal-cutting tool are levelled.
