SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemistry of polyhedral borohydride compounds and derivatives of melamine, namely, to a 2,4-diamine-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborate semihydrate of the composition (C4H7N5)2·H2B12H12·0,5H2O and to a method for synthesis thereof. Method for producing a 2,4-diamine-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborate semihydrate of the composition (C4H7N5)2·H2B12H12·0,5H2O includes conducting an exchange reaction between 2,4-diamine-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine hydrochloride C4H7N5·HCl and silver dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborate Ag2B12H12 in an aqueous medium while heating and stirring. The deposited by-products are then separated, the filtrate is evaporated, and the target compound is dried. The molar ratio of C4H7N5·HCl:Ag2B12H12 equals 2:1.1.

EFFECT: 2,4-diamine-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazine dodecahydro-closo-dodecaborate semihydrate of the composition (C4H7N5)2·H2B12H12·0,5H2O for application as an energy-intensive component of various compositions, as well as a source compound for producing C-N-B-containing composites, which may include carbon and boron nitrides and boron carbonitride.
