SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and compositions for dyeing leather articles to achieve an effect of the article imitating an antique, and to finishing surfaces of leather articles. Solution of bitumen-based varnish for creating an antique-imitating coating on artistic decorative leather articles consists of a solvent - 80 to 90% wt., and bitumen-based varnish – 10 to 20% wt. Method for creating an antique-imitating coating on artistic decorative leather articles using a solution of bitumen-based varnish, herein includes coating the pre-prepared surface of the article with bitumen-based varnish. The surface is coated at room temperature, with mandatory drying of each layer for 6 to 24 hours, followed by coating the article with wax-based putty, drying each layer for 6 to 24 hours.
EFFECT: possibility of creating a stable and reliable coating for leather articles, providing a realistic antique-like effect.
