To control the meter performance, the active power of the electrical circuit is measured, a test signal is applied, the total active power is measured, the measured fictitious active power, the fictitious active power measurement error are determined, the fictitious active power measurement error is compared with the marginal error, and information is generated on the meter performance monitoring result.

EFFECT: increasing metrological reliability, simplifying the design and the possibility of performing automatic control of the meter's performance without interrupting the controlled electrical circuit.
