FIELD: polymers.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing a halogenated isoolefin copolymer. The method includes bringing a polymerisate of an unsaturated isoolefin copolymer, containing an unsaturated isoolefin copolymer dissolved in an organic solvent, in conditions of halogenation in contact with a halogenating agent and an aqueous solution of C1-20 organic peroxy acid as an oxidiser, resulting in a two-phase reaction medium including an organic phase and an aqueous phase. The organic peroxy acid as an oxidiser is capable of converting hydrogen halide into free halogen. The water content level in the polymerisate is 1 wt.% or more as calculated for the total weight of the polymerisate.
EFFECT: greater use of halogen as a result of oxidation of hydrogen halide formed in the course of halogenation of an unsaturated isoolefin copolymer back into a molecular halogen even if the polymerisate contains significant amounts of water and an emulsifier is not used.
