The method for mining coal seams from the sides of coal mines using underground coal mining technologies includes preparing and mining a coal seam using a room-and-pillar mining system. Mining is carried out directly from the side of the cut. A tunneling machine of frontal or selective action is used to carry out the extraction chamber to the boundaries provided for the development of coal reserves. Mining of the coal seam is carried out by horizontal steps when the shearer is moving in reverse from the boundary of the extraction chamber or by vertical steps when the shearer is moving from the side of the cut to the boundary of the extraction chamber. Transportation of coal from the extraction chamber is carried out on the ledge of the cut in the stack.

EFFECT: reduction of losses in the development of coal mines due to the development of non-recoverable coal reserves - pillars, which are formed as a result of the applied ledge technology for open-pit mining of coal seams.
