SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an aerosol-generating apparatus and an aerosol generation system. Aerosol-generating apparatus comprises an aerosol generation chamber configured to accommodate an aerosol-generating article containing an aerosolising substrate, an air inlet whereby ambient air can enter the aerosol-generating apparatus, and an air flow path fluidly connecting the air inlet with the aerosol forming chamber. The air inlet is located in the recessed part of the external surface of the aerosol-generating apparatus, and the recessed part is more than 10 mm in length so as to prevent the user from blocking the air inlet with a finger.

EFFECT: due to the air inlet being provided in a recessed part, the user is able to hold the apparatus in any position and place the fingers in any place of the apparatus without blocking the air inlet with the finger.
