The internal prediction mode is retrieved for the current block based on at least one of the MPM flag information value, the planar flag information value, or the MPM index information value. The predicted block is retrieved for the current block based on the internal prediction mode for the current block. A restored frame is formed based on the predicted block. The MPM flag information is configured in the syntax of the encoding unit for the current block.
