FIELD: means for image encoding.
SUBSTANCE: type of intra prediction for the current unit is determined. MPM flag information, planar flag information, and MPM index information are generated based on the extracted mode. MPM flag information is related to whether to derive the intra prediction mode for the current unit on the most likely mode (MPM) candidates for the current unit. Planar flag information is related to whether to determine the intra prediction mode for the current unit as the planar mode. MPM index information is associated with one of the 5 non-planar MPM options out of the MPM options. Residual samples are formed based on predictive samples. Image information containing intra prediction information and residual information is encoded. Meanwhile, the intra prediction information includes MPM flag information, planar flag information, and MPM index information.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of image encoding.
