The expected result is achieved due to a device and a method that provide syntactic analysis of the encoded audio bit stream and extraction of encoded audio data and metadata of one or more DRC profiles; decoding encoded audio data and applying DRC amplifications to decoded audio data, while each DRC profile is suitable for at least one type of device or listening environment; one or more DRC profiles are selected in response to information about the audio processing device or the listening environment and the DRC amplification applied to the decoded audio data correspond to one or more selected DRC profiles.

EFFECT: optimizing the dynamic range by reducing the level of loud sounds and/or amplifying the level of quiet sounds in order to accommodate the original content with a wide dynamic range in a narrower recorded dynamic range.
