FIELD: railway engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for thermomechanical hardening of the flange of a railway wheel. The method involves the creation of a hardened metal layer in the area of the wheel flange by heating the local section of the flange to temperatures above the critical points of austenitic transformation and subsequent rapid cooling, while heating the surface layer of metal in the area of the wheel flange is carried out by heat transfer from a shaped roller heated to temperatures 1100-1200οC having a shape repeating the profile of the local section of the flange, subject to heat treatment, which is rolled around the circumference of the wheel, and the cooling of the heated metal layer in the area of the wheel flange is carried out by aerosol spraying of the coolant supplied through the nozzle.
EFFECT: obtaining a uniform depth and hardness of the hardened layer both on the surface of the flange, from the foot to the top, and along the diameter of the entire wheel, as well as increasing the performance of heat treatment.
