FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of studies of isentropic compression, in particular, to apparatus for compressing gases and bunches of magnetised plasma. Apparatus for compressing gases and bunches of magnetised plasma comprises a charge of an explosive, enveloping a cylindrical shell with a cavity. A vacuum sealed gap is made between the charge of the explosive and the shell, with a thickness ensuring the loading of the inner boundary of the cylindrical shell with weak compression waves and the isentropic acceleration mode of the shell without destruction thereof. The cylindrical shell is therein copper or beryllium.

EFFECT: possibility of uniform compression of gases or bunches of magnetised plasma to megabar pressures, wherein the reduction in the rate of thermonuclear reactions during compression of magnetised plasma is eliminated due to the inhibition of shock wave ejection of metal particles from the shell.
