SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of ferrous metallurgy, in particular to the smelting of steel in an electric arc furnace. Liquid iron is poured into the furnace in an amount of 70-90% by weight of the metal charge, after which the bath is purged with oxygen at a flow rate of 2000-8000 nm3/hour for 12-25% of the purging time, then the oxygen consumption is increased to 5000-10000 nm3/hour and purging is carried out in the specified mode for 12-25% of the purging time, then the oxygen consumption is increased to 10000-15000 nm3/hour and the purging is carried out in the specified mode until it ends.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to develop a technology for steel smelting in an electric arc furnace with a share of liquid iron in the metal charge of more than 70% and, as a result, to reduce the cost of steel.
