FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a transdermal delivery system for systematic donepezil delivery. The proposed system contains: a skin-contacting adhesive layer for adhesion of the system to the user’s skin, and a drug reservoir containing (i) acrylate copolymer, (ii) glycerin, and (iii) donepezil base forming by a reaction of donepezil HCl and alkaline salt, where alkaline salt is sodium bicarbonate or potassium bicarbonate. A method for donepezil delivery is also proposed.
EFFECT: system is provided for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and achieves transdermal therapeutic agent delivery, which is bioequivalent to oral administration of a therapeutic agent, as well as provides stable and effective release of the agent during administration and has suitable adhesion for long-term administration.
