SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The method for obtaining potassium bromate involves the oxidation of bromine in an oxidizing burner flame in the presence of a platinum spiral. A saturated bromine solution in a propane-butane mixture is fed into the burner. The oxidizer is oxygen or air with a tenfold excess of oxygen in relation to fuel. The combustion products are captured with a solution of potassium hydroxide or carbonate.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to simplify the production of potassium bromate, eliminating electrochemical processes and the formation of toxic and difficult-to-recycle waste and by-products, and increase the yield of potassium bromate.
