FIELD: organic chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry, specifically to a method for producing a cetane-enhancing additive, which is n-butyl nitrate, by nitrating alcohol with a mixture of sulfuric and nitric acids. The method consists in that the acid mixture of the composition, wt.%: H2SO4 - 45-60, HNO3 - 10-25, water - the rest up to 100, is stirred and at a temperature of the reaction mixture of about 15°C for 1-1.5 h n-butanol is dosed, after which it is kept at the reaction temperature for 10-20 minutes. After that, the lower layer of the nitrating mixture is drained and cooled, diluting 50-60 wt.% of water, and then sulfuric acid is sent for regeneration, which is reused after reduction, and the upper layer of the nitration product is cooled and washed with 40 wt.% water at a temperature of 20- 40°C, after which it is fed into the separator. In the separator, the upper layer of the product is separated from the washing water containing the washed acids, and fed for washing with a 45 wt.% aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate with a total concentration of sodium bicarbonate of 10% at a temperature of 20-30°C. After that, the product is fed into the separator, where the upper product layer is separated from the spent aqueous soda solution. The crude product with a water content of 0.1-0.15 wt.% is mixed with a drying agent, after which the n-butyl nitrate is separated from the drying agent.

EFFECT: expanding the raw material base for obtaining a cetane-enhancing additive, reducing the consumption of reagents, reducing the cost of production, as well as obtaining a product of a higher quality.
