FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical-thermal treatment of steels in powder media and can be used to improve the performance of parts made of structural steels used in mechanical engineering. The composition of the powder mixture for borating contains components at the following ratio, wt. %: boron carbide 56-60, iron scale 24, charcoal carbonizer 15-19, sodium carbonate 1.
EFFECT: stable quality of the surfaces of steel parts while borating is ensured by reducing internal stresses due to the formation of a single-phase diffusion layer of iron diboride Fe2B.
