FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for chemical heat treatment and can be used to increase operational resistance of articles made from carbon steels. Method of borating surface layers of carbon steel involves deposition of boron-containing coating and induction. Boron-containing coating contains 75 wt% of boric acid and 25 wt% of iron powder. Amounts of 1 ml ammonium hydroxide, 0.32 g of carbon and 1 ml of water-diluted liquid glass are added in proportion to 1.5 g of a mixture of boric acid and iron powder. Then diffusion processes are activated by action of induction currents in induction furnace at 1,000 °C and holding time of 5 minutes.
EFFECT: higher quality of borated near-surface layer by formation of vast diffusion zone and increased efficiency of process.
