SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of radar determination of the parameters of moving objects and can be used in measuring the initial velocity of a projectile. The method for measuring the initial velocity of the projectile consists in the fact that the Doppler echo signal is detected, the groups of durations of the Doppler pulse time sections in the Doppler echo signal are recorded. Groups of possible velocities and groups of differences between neighboring values ​​in the group of possible velocities are formed according to the group of assumed path values. The absence of the action of powder gases is determined by the magnitude of the difference between adjacent values ​​in the group of possible speeds when it decreases to a given error, and the average of these two adjacent values ​​of possible speeds is taken as the initial speed.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of projectile velocity measurement by reducing errors due to the effect of powder gases.
