FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for extracting iodine from mineralised natural waters, used in medicine, agriculture, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Proposed is a method for producing iodine from mineralised natural waters, including the oxidation of iodide ion in the mineralised water with an ozone-air mixture, and characterised by the process being conducted at a pH of 5 to 7 and the stabilisation of molecular iodine and prevention of overoxidation thereof are provided by the molar ratio 1,500:1 to 2,500:1 of chloride ions to iodide ions by adjusting the content of chloride ions by adding sodium chloride or potassium chloride.
EFFECT: possibility of lowering the cost of oxidation of iodide ions by eliminating the addition of iron salts and reducing the dosage of the acidifying agent.
