FIELD: materials non-destructive testing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to non-destructive testing of materials. In the method for selective control of the depth and quality of surface hardening, products are exposed to an alternating magnetic field, they are remagnetized according to a hysteresis cycle or magnetized along a magnetization curve, then parameters are determined by which the quality of hardening is judged. Magnetization reversal is carried out in one hysteresis cycle. The parameters are the magnetic field strength in the magnetized area of the test object and the magnetic flux in the magnetic circuit of the electromagnet at a fixed current in the magnetizing coils of the electromagnet. Going beyond the established limits of the parameters of the magnetic field strength in the magnetizable area of the test object and the magnetic flux in the magnetic circuit indicates a non-compliance with the requirements for the depth and quality of the hardened layer, respectively.
EFFECT: reliability of control increases.
