FIELD: electric power industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the electric power industry and can be used to determine the location of the damage to the cable line. According to the information of the dispatching service, the type of damage is determined, for which, based on the results of the calculation, a theoretical amplitude-coordinate (ACC) characteristic of the input current of the line is built, given the values of its primary parameters, as well as the values of the sinusoidal voltage and frequency of the supply source. Then the line with damage is connected to a sinusoidal adjustable generator of the same voltage and frequency values that were used in theoretical calculations. Using an ammeter, the effective value of the current at the line input is determined. By the value of the effective value of the current at the input of the line, using the (ACC)-characteristic, the length of the section to the fault point is determined, i.e. its coordinate.
EFFECT: expansion of the applicability range of the method with the possibility of determining the coordinates for both types of line damage: short circuit and break.
