FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of medicine, namely, to therapeutic dentistry, and is intended for use in diagnosing lesions of hard dental tissues. The condition of tooth enamel is diagnosed based on the comparison of the results of measuring the voltages on the electrodes, wherein one of said electrodes is located on the surface of the tooth, and the second one either in the oral cavity, or in a hand of the patient, or on the surface of tooth enamel at a distance of at least 0.5 mm from the first electrode, while current with test characteristics for the specific type of teeth flows through the electrodes and the dental tissues. The voltage value increased by more than 20% on direct current and by 10% on alternating or pulse current to a frequency of 100 kHz herein means that the tooth is devital, and the voltage value reduced by more than 15% on direct current and by 10% on alternating or pulse current to a frequency of 100 kHz means that development of initial caries began in this area of the tooth.

EFFECT: due to the use of measurements causing essentially no pain sensation and not damaging to body tissues, method provides information on the vitality of the tooth and the presence of carious lesions therein.
