FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of automated measurements, in particular to a method and a device for remote determination of characteristics of live specimens, such as agricultural animals. The method contains obtainment of an image of a live specimen and segmentation of the image; measurement of a distance to several parts of the mentioned image, providing several distance indicators; determination of characteristics of a shape of the live specimen, characteristics of a depth of the live specimen in distance indicators contained in the segmented image; and comparison of a shape analysis map and a depth profile analysis map. If the result of the mentioned comparison is within a given range, parameters of the live specimen are additionally determined, including parameters of a pose and/or location, or adjustment of the mentioned anatomical control points and/or body size parameters, and/or a body map of the live specimen is provided.
EFFECT: provision of fast and automated measurements for obtainment of reliable and accurate parameters of orientation and/or pose of animals freely moving in the natural environment.
