FIELD: macromolecular chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to macromolecular chemistry, namely to methods for the production of lightly crosslinked polymers of acrylic acid. A method for step-by-step single-capacity production of lightly crosslinked polymers of acrylic acid and crosslinking agents is described. In this method, an esterification mixture consisting of components necessary for obtainment of a crosslinking agent – acrylic acid, polyatomic alcohol, p-toluene sulfonic acid, and a solvent selected from toluene, methylene chloride, acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate is placed to a reactor, and esterification is carried out with mixing in inert gas atmosphere. Then, reagents for polymerization – acrylic acid and a polymerization initiator are added to the mixture of the resulting crosslinking agent, being in the reactor, with mixing in inert atmosphere at a temperature in the range from 40 to 90°C, with the following ratio of components in the reaction mixture, wt. pt.: acrylic acid 5-30, p-toluene sulfonic acid 0.1-1.5, polyatomic alcohol 0.025-0.1, polymerization initiator 0.05-0.2. The resulting product is filtered, dried from the solvent and residual monomer.

EFFECT: reduction in amount of required equipment, amount of energy necessary for synthesis, number of consumed solvents, increase in the yield of a product due to combination of synthesis of a crosslinking agent with subsequent polymerization of acrylic acid and its crosslinking with these crosslinking agents in the same reactor.
