FIELD: fodder industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fodders for pets. A method for increasing a content of ketone bodies in a companion animal includes oral administration of a composition to the companion animal. Moreover, the composition contains medium chain triglycerides (hereinafter – MCT) in amount from 1% to 15%, proteins in amount from 30% to 70%, fats in amount from 20% to 40%, and carbohydrates in amount from 10% to 25%. Moreover, the ratio of proteins to carbohydrates in the composition has a value of at least 2:1. An oral composition for increasing a content of ketone bodies in a companion animal is also proposed.
EFFECT: invention is aimed at an increase in a number of ketone bodies in an animal without the use of increased ketone-producing ingredients – MCT and/or limitation of food protein.
