SUBSTANCE: method of reducing weight in a domestic animal involves oral administration to an animal of a composition containing from 1 wt.% to 15 wt.% of a medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) composition, wherein the medium-chain triglycerides include caprylic acid from 55 wt.% to 90 wt.% of the MCT weight, and the composition is administered to the animal daily for at least two weeks. Composition further comprises a component selected from the group consisting of isoflavones, L-carnitine, conjugated linoleic acid, astaxanthin, polyunsaturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, arginine and mixtures thereof. Composition is a complete and nutritionally balanced pet food. Animal is a companion animal, that is a dog or a cat.

EFFECT: disclosed method of weight reduction in a domestic animal enables to effectively reduce the weight of the animal without reducing the daily diet.
