FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: ball-helix transmission consists of a semicircular-profile groove shaped as an Archimedean spiral, with freely held balls in place of teeth of the same profile with the same recess profile, and a gear of the matching configuration engaging therewith, with such width and location above the plane of the helix as not to allow simultaneous contact with two balls, moving linearly along the axis of the driven shaft coupled with the gear, in diameter parallel to the plane of the helix, wherein the in-rolling balls transmit torque to the shaft during the rotation of said helix via the gear positioned on the axle thereof at any point, changing the gear ratio infinitely variably. When the gear moves in a diametrically opposite direction, the rotation is reversed. A neutral transmission is made in the centre of the helix; springs with a working stroke equal to the radius of the balls are buried at the ends of the helix.
EFFECT: significant rate of change, power transmitted, range, and precision of the gear ratio.
