FIELD: video encoding/decoding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding and decoding a video signal. It is determined, whether a size of the current block exceeds the minimum permissible size of a leaf node of a quadrant tree. Binary separation is applied to the current block based on the maximum permissible size of a leaf node of a binary tree, provided that the size of the current block does not exceed the minimum permissible size of the leaf node of the quadrant tree. Moreover, the maximum permissible size of a root node of the binary tree is determined based on the minimum permissible size of the leaf node of the quadrant tree, while the minimum permissible size of the leaf node of the quadrant tree does not exceed the minimum permissible size of the root node of the binary tree.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of video encoding.
