SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of gear processing and tools used for it, and can be used in the production of worm and spiroid wheels. The tool is a turning head containing a worm, the turns of which are thinned compared to the turns of the producing worm and are designed to support the cutting inserts installed in the sockets, which are made at the ends of the turns, with the main reference plane orthogonal to the line of turns of the producing worm, while the head is made with complete equipment with cutting inserts, when the number of cutting inserts is equal to the number of passes of the producing worm, or incomplete equipment with cutting inserts, when the number of cutting inserts is less than the number of entries of the producing worm. The break-in head is made tail two-bearing or tail single-bearing or mounted. The cutting inserts can be made in the form of non-regrindable carbide inserts. The number of production runs may not have common divisors with the number of teeth of the cut wheel. The number of cutting inserts can be selected as a multiple of 2 or 3, while the working cutting edge of each insert in a pair or triple of inserts lies on one of the elements of the producing worm - one of the two side surfaces or the surface of the tops.
