FIELD: atmospheric and meteorological observations.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of atmospheric and meteorological observations and sounding of crystalline and liquid-drop clouds. A method for laser sounding of crystalline clouds, which consists in sending linearly polarized radiation into the atmosphere, receiving and recording lidar signals backscattered by the cloud in two mutually orthogonal planes, one of which coincides with the plane of polarization of the sounding radiation, and determining the ratio of these signals, characterized in that cloud sounding is carried out by scanning with a laser beam in a vertical plane in the range of zenith angles from zero to 60 degrees, in which the dependence of the signal ratio on the angle of inclination of the sounding path is determined, and then the microphysical parameters of cloud particles are judged by the magnitude of the ratio.
EFFECT: remote detection of areas with a predominant orientation of crystalline particles, as well as the determination of their microphysical parameters with respect to shape and size.
