FIELD: meteorology. SUBSTANCE: probing pulses of linearly polarized radiation with mutually perpendicular planes of polarization are sent in sequence into atmosphere. Basic and orthogonal components of reflected radiation caused by single dispersal are received. In addition reflected radiation is received at angles of vision field of radiation receiver exceeding angle of vision field for reception of single dispersal. From radiation received additionally part caused by single dispersal is excluded. Remaining part caused only by multiple dispersal is used to evaluate distribution of drops by dimensions and water content of atmosphere. EFFECT: remote determination of phase state of clouds and fogs. 1 dwg
