FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to handrails suitable for use with an escalator. The handrail contains a frame, a shell attached to the frame, an extension limiter inside the frame, and a sliding layer attached to the frame. At least part of the frame consists of a gas phase dispersed in thermoplastic polyurethane (hereinafter – TPU). A method for the manufacture of a handrail contains stages, at which the extension limiter and the sliding layer are supplied to a mold. TPU is supplied to the mold in a molten state. The gas phase is dispersed in TPU to form the frame. TPU is combined with the extension limiter in such a way that to embed the extension limiter inside TPU. The sliding layer is brought into contact with TPU. Thermoplastic material, other than TPU, is supplied to the mold in a molten state in the form of a separate flow. The flow of this thermoplastic material is brough into contact with TPU opposite to the sliding layer to form the shell. TPU, the specified thermoplastic material, the extension limiter, and the sliding layer form composite extrudate. Composite extrudate is extracted from the mold.

EFFECT: reduction in a density of a frame of a moving handrail is achieved.
