FIELD: hydroacoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hydroacoustics, namely to methods and devices for localization of noise-producing objects in the sea by their noise emission, and can be used to solve the problem of determining the depth of immersion of a noise-producing object in the sea. Essence: in the method, a table of the dependence of delays on the depth of immersion of a noise-producing object in the sea in the current hydro-acoustic conditions is preliminarily formed. To do this, the speed of sound in water is measured depending on the depth, the beam structure of the signal at the antenna input is formed for a set of possible positions of the noise-producing object along the grid “distance × depth”, the estimated time delay of the pair of the most intense rays that came to the antenna input at close angles is calculated for each possible position of the noise-producing object from this set, and the calculated delays obtained for a set of distances at one depth are combined into a single cell of the table by forming an average value. The depth of immersion of a noise-producing object is determined after measuring the delay in the autocorrelation function of the received signal by selecting the appropriate depth from the table.
EFFECT: providing localization of a noise-producing object by the depth of its immersion in the conditions of a real oceanic waveguide; the method works without measuring the angle of arrival of the signal in the vertical plane, which makes it possible not to form a directional characteristic, which means using a small antenna.
