FIELD: image data processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of digital image processing and pertains to a method for aligning images from matrix photodetectors of different spectral bands. When the method is implemented, an image made by a photodetector with a large angle of view is selected as a reference image; the image scale relativity coefficient is determined; the resolution of the source images is reduced by a given factor; the contours of objects in the images brought to the minimum scale are calculated. The values of the Pearson linear correlation coefficient are found for all possible positions of the image from the nth photodetector relative to the reference image, wherein the indices of the Pearson correlation coefficient (n, m) indicate the number of pixel of the base image characterising the position of the top left-hand corner of the nth image relative to the reference image, and the maximum correlation coefficient of all the resulting values is determined. Indices (n, m) are used to find the position of the image from the nth photodetector brought to the minimum scale relative to the reference image, and the position of the source images from the n photodetectors relative to the reference image is calculated.

EFFECT: accelerated process of aligning images and possibility of aligning images of different spectral bands.
