SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to hydrocarbon resin of at least one cyclic diolefin component and at least one aromatic component with ethylene unsaturation and its production method, as well as to its use as an additive to varnish, a plastic modifier, for improvement of mechanical and dynamic characteristics of rubber products, an additive and/or water repellent in bitumen, a modifier and/or water repellent in polypropylene films, in particular BOPP films, in cosmetic products, in printing paints, an adhesion amplifier for hotmelt for use in the industry of hygienic products, and for use in packages for food products. The method includes a mixture of monomers, which contains at least one cyclic diolefin component and at least one aromatic component with ethylene unsaturation with 8-13 carbon atoms, which is heated at a heating speed from 0.5 to 10°C/s to a temperature of at least 180°C. Moreover, the mixture of monomers, during heating to at least 180°C and during polymerization, is essentially single-phase liquid, and polymerization is carried out at pressure from 1 MPa (10 bar) to 2.5 MPa (25 bar) and a temperature from 200 to 300°C. The resulting hydrocarbon resin has Mz value of less than 1800 g/mol, polydispersity index of 2 or less, and Hazen color unit of 25 or less.
