FIELD: producing superhard ceramic materials.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for producing superhard ceramic materials, namely to methods for producing ceramic materials based on AlMgB14, and can be used for the manufacture of structural materials and targets for magnetron sputtering coatings that increase the wear resistance of cutting tools, machine parts (shafts, bearings, gears), turbines, pumping equipment and other wear-resistant, chemically inert parts. The method includes mixing the powders of the initial components, mechanical activation of the resulting powder mixture and subsequent sintering by hot pressing. The starting components are Al12Mg17 intermetallic alloy powder with an average particle size of at least 15 mcm and amorphous black boron powder with an average particle size of at least 2 mcm in an atomic ratio of 2:14, respectively. The mechanical activation of the resulting powder mixture is carried out in a planetary mill in an argon atmosphere at a drum rotation speed of 720-840 rpm. Sintering is carried out by hot pressing at a pressure of 30-50 MPa and a temperature of at least 1200°C with an exposure of at least 20 minutes.
EFFECT: increase in the content of the target phase AlMgB14 in the final product and reduction of impurity phases are achieved.
