FIELD: ceramics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of ceramics based on yttrium-aluminium garnet (YAG) containing dopants (YAG: Re), where Re is neodymium (Nd), erbium (Er), ytterbium (Yb), scandium (Sc) or (YAG: Cr), and can be used for making active bodies of solid-state lasers and optical shutters. Disclosed is a method of producing optical ceramics, wherein ceramic powder of yttrium aluminium garnet is obtained from a precursor powder synthesized by chemical coprecipitation of a solution of nitrates or chlorides of a given cationic composition into aqueous ammonia and ammonium sulphate solution. Ceramic powders are formed by uniaxial and cold isostatic pressing. Obtained compacts are annealed in air, vacuum sintered, subjected to hot isostatic pressing with subsequent grinding and polishing on both sides.

EFFECT: ceramics sintering processes in the vacuum furnace and in the hot isostatic press are carried out in a tungsten container filled with yttrium oxide powder filling, inside of which the sintered compacts are placed, which provides the sintered ceramic article insulation from contaminants of the thermal unit materials (heating elements, heat shields, equipment), helps to achieve the optical ceramics theoretical optical transmission.
