FIELD: engine building.
SUBSTANCE: method of operation of an internal combustion engine with compression ignition is proposed, containing a prechamber 2 with a nozzle located in the cylinder head 1 and the main combustion chamber 6 located between the cylinder head 1 and the piston head 3, equipped with a displacer 4, forming at the position of the piston in the top dead center (TDC) an annular gap 5 with the neck wall of the prechamber 2. The method includes displacing by a piston without a combustion chamber all the air necessary for combustion from a volume limited by the piston head and cylinder head into a prechamber installed in the cylinder head, ignition and combustion in the prechamber, and a working stroke by the piston under the action of combustion pressure. Set by the height of the displacer 4, the duration of the throat overlap during the piston stroke before and after TDC in degrees of the angle of rotation of the crankshaft is in the range of ±(20-30)°, at the optimal value ±25°, and the area of the annular gap 5 is not more than 0.018% of the area of the piston 3.
EFFECT: improved fuel efficiency, ignition and combustion of fuel.
