FIELD: technical physics.
SUBSTANCE: thermophysical research in aerothermodynamics and materials science, used in the study of heat transfer of high-temperature materials. A method for determining the catalytic activity of materials and coatings with respect to the recombination of atoms, which consists in determining the heat fluxes to the reference and test samples when they are heated in a non-equilibrium flow of air or nitrogen plasma, while the reference and test samples are thermally insulated by setting the samples flush at the end of the cylinder of a high-temperature heat-insulating material installed with its end face to the oncoming gas flow, the heat flux to the samples is determined by measuring the brightness temperature, and the brightness temperature is measured at the centres of the samples in a stationary heating mode and the value of the heterogeneous recombination rate constant Kw of the test sample is determined by the formula: Kw = Kwe + dKw/dTb × ΔTb (1), where Kwe is the known value of the heterogeneous recombination rate constant for the reference sample, dKw/dTb is the derivative calculated using parametric numerical simulation, ΔTb is the difference between the brightness temperatures of the test and reference samples. Moreover, the samples are heated alternately in the flows of air and nitrogen plasma in a stationary heating mode, and the brightness temperature is measured in the centers of the samples.
EFFECT: increase in the measurement accuracy due to the thermal insulation of the samples and the measurement of the brightness temperature.
