FIELD: fluids calorific value online determination.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a system and method for online determination of the calorific value of fluids. The method uses a computer (200) having a processor (210) configured to execute instructions based on data stored in a storage device (220), wherein the processor (210) implements the steps of an inference module (204) stored in the storage device (220 ), the method comprising the step of determining, by means of an inference module (204), an inferential relationship by analyzing the relationship between known measurements of at least one measured calorific value, at least one fluid, and at least one corresponding measured value of type identical to the type of at least one measured value, wherein the inferred relationship has a density term (B), wherein at least one of the measured value is a measured density (ρ), and a term B) density has an inverse density (1/ρ), with the density term (B) representing the inverse relationship between density (ρ) and inferred energy content, and the measured density (ρ) does not represent the density (ρair) of air.
