FIELD: process for producing an enriched ethylene oxide stream.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes the following steps: (a) obtaining a stream of water from the enrichment cycle containing ethylene oxide, methane and ethylene, which contains from 1.5 to 4 mol.% of ethylene oxide; (b) separating, in the flash drum, the dissolved light gas vapor from the water stream from the enrichment cycle; (c) directing upward vapor of the dissolved light gas through an opening in the flash drum allowing fluid communication with an absorber mounted on the top surface of the flash drum to form a stream from the top of the absorber; (d) pumping water from the enrichment cycle from the bottoms of the flash drum to the desorber; and (e) separating the water from the enrichment cycle in the desorber into: (1) an enriched stream in the upper part of the desorber containing at least 40 mol.% of ethylene oxide; and (2) a lean aqueous cycle solution in the bottom part of the desorber containing 1 to 50 mol. ppm ethylene oxide. In this case, the pressure in the desorber is from 2 to 6 atmospheres and the temperature in the cubic part of the desorber is from 100 to 200°C.

EFFECT: recovery of ethylene oxide from an aqueous washing solution into a more concentrated solution.
