FIELD: material production.
SUBSTANCE: production of hydrophobic materials, in particular powdered organophilic clay minerals based on natural bentonites. The nucleophilic method for obtaining organophilic bentonite clay includes mixing a highly dispersed mineral material with a hydrophobically modifying additive, while a concentrated aqueous suspension of bentonite clay containing from 8 to 50% (by weight) of the aqueous phase, as a hydrophobically modifying additive - fatty acids of vegetable oils with a hydrocarbon radical C10-C24 length, and the reaction mixture additionally contains an alkaline agent in the following ratio, in % by weight: aqueous suspension of bentonite clay 45-80; fatty acids 15-45; alkaline agent 5-10.
EFFECT: increasing the hydrophobic characteristics of organophilic bentonite.
